Our services were subjected to a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) at 17:00 UTC. We took everything down for the sake of caution while we conducted a full investigation.
Your data was not compromised and we are back in action.

You guy's did a good job by Detecting the attack, and then shutting off the network access etc :)
So yeah good job all in all!
No risk of the "attacker" getting any info if they can't access the network :P

Is the DDoS attack still going on, because i seem to be still disconnecting like when i did at 17:00 UTC.

Is there a plan in place or changes being reviewed to prevent mitigate such attacks in future?
Also, why can we not change our account payment details (Credit cards) until 30 days game time remains, that is ludicrious.
How about not storing it at all (or opt in) and let us enter it when we want to add more game time, therefore mitigating breach risk even more.

Probably the poor hamsters getting fried by all the people logging in at the same time. Working fine for me on 2 accounts, but here around all the normal people are sleeping

Had 14k users 5-10 mins ago. 10k 3 mins ago, 9k 1 min ago.
Doesn't seem like people logging in.

Sorry if I am gonna have to crab like a lot of other people, but what fun that on one of my two days off, on my birthday, this happens. Not you're fault I know, but what I am annoyed about is that the server comes back up and then I get kicked off again...trying to reset my PI so I can at least get SOME ISK.
Yeesh...wonder how I can make back the ISK I lost from this fiasco...

Is CCP going to pursue this in any way? I mean pass on any logs or whatever to the relevant authority's?

The problem now is everyone trying to log in at the same time.
on average there is 32,000 people online at any given time. well right now all those people are trying to log in at the same time.
This flood of users is almost as bad as a ddos attack. The servers are overloading with log in attempts so everyone just hold your horses and slow down. Let the servers catch up. They have had a hard day.

seeing the last 2 have little to do with the downtime.. i'll stick to the first.
if you build a system that can withstand N, you only need to bring N+1 to take it down.. the only way to securely mitigate any chance of it happening again is by making sure N is larger than what a potential threat can send.. at which point you're safe until another threat that builds a system that can send N+1 ...
judging by what the rest of the internet felt from the attack, CCP's N factor is a leap higher than what I would have thought it'd be

When there is a rolling restart or whatever i don't have any problems with logging in.
I don't see why it would be a problem now.

The account payment details issues is very much to do with security also, not being able to even update it to newly issued cards due to expirey dates, until 30 days or less game time is ludicious. I don't see a need to actually store the CC details at all really but sure, keep dancing around the bush on the issue by ignoring it.

CCP are going to implement a scheme where people are not allowed to use the internet if they are going to do mean things. This is well within their powers and a perfectly reasonable thing to expect of them
